It has been a long hot dry summer that just followed an equally dry winter. I have been so looking forward to the return of TV. Well, these last few weeks most of the old shows have returned and even a few new ones have begun. Here are my thoughts so far:
The New: Fringe - typically Abramsish from the strong female character to the eerily familiar music a la Alias and Lost. The series premiere was incredibly predictable - made so by Abrams inability to do anything he hasn't already done before. This one is sort of a X-files meets Alias show - complete with conspiracy theories. Still, I keep watching and hoping that it will turn out decent, especially since my lovely Teddy Dunn (from Veronica Mars) is one of the main characters. Nice...
Dollhouse - OK, so it hasn't actually started yet but I feel safe declaring it the best new show on TV. I mean, c'mon - Joss Whedon and Eliza Dushku together again! How can it fail? I SIMPLY CAN"T WAIT.
The Returns...
So, speaking of favorite actors finding a home in new shows - Heroes never stops making me fall in love with it. The addition of Kristen Bell (Veronica Mars) and David Anders (Sark on Alias) last year made me reach new heights of joy, but this year Bruce Boxleitner joins the cast and I'm simply overcome with pleasure at the thought. Scarecrow and Mrs King was my favorite show for the longest time. And the plot is certainly keeping up with the earlier seasons in creating suspense and awe. I was particularly enthralled, this week, with the use of Yeats' "The Second Coming" - one of my favorite poems and used in such a brilliant way, here.
The Office was genius. It didn't hold a candle to last year's premiere, when Michael hit Meredith with his car, but the whole story was pretty awesome. I could go on and on and on.. but I wouldn't know where to stop.
House - I am not happy. 'Nuf said.
Bones - I am very happy. and hopeful. If you watch it you know why.
Desperate Housewives - OK - so I wasn't too happy with the season finale and the placing of this season 5 years in the future - but they did it, and I was prepared to go along with it - THEN - they don't follow through. For instance, at the end of last season, Terri Hatcher was married to a different man. Not the case last night. I DO NOT LIkE INCONSISTENCY!!!!! Hmph!
The Unit - Oh, my, is this looking like an excellent season. I can't believe he found that picture! OMG! This really could be one of the best shows on TV. Why, oh why, don't more people watch it? tsk, tsk, tsk.
